Introduction
A Component is a part of another piece of equipment. Some equipment, such as Air Handling Units, has several distinct electrical and mechanical parts that work together and are best considered as part of the Air Handling Unit. A good example is an Exhaust Fan. If the Exhaust Fan is part of an Air Handling Unit, then it is best represented as a Component in Virtual Facility. An Exhaust Fan could also be a stand alone equipment and represented as an Equipment Asset in Virtual Facility. Components are not represented as an asset type in Virtual Facility, but rather they are captured as an Alarm attribute named "Alarm Component". This structure allows alarms to specify which part of an asset is failing.
Note that this structure is different from CMMS Systems, which may capture ALL parts as assets in some organization's implementations. Because of this, Virtual Facility's CMMS Mapping incorporates both Assets and Alarms (which specify the component). For more details see, the KB article CMMS Asset or Location Mapping Management.
Assigning a Component to an Alarm

- Under the Alarm Details section, scroll to Alarm Component.
- Pick the appropriate Component.
Virtual Facility provides a list of standard components. If you are not sure which component is best in your situation, contact support for guidance.
