System Naming in BAS Alarm Text

When the VF parsing algorithms search for assets within alarms, more clearly labeled assets have a better chance of being identified. In order to better organize and label your alarms, VF recommends adhering, as closely as possible, to generally accepted industry-standard names and abbreviations for systems.

The recommended format for system tagging is as follows:

Long Form (preferred)

The unabbreviated system type followed by the unit number, e.g., Hot Water System 1, or Basement Hot Water Reheat System.

Long forms are preferred for system names, and including more identifying information such as system number, floor, or system usage is more helpful, e.g., 1st Floor Hot Water Reheat System

Short Form 

Type 1 - The system type abbreviation, a hyphen, and the system number, e.g., HWS, or HWS-1

Type 2 - The system type abbreviation, a hyphen, unit number, but contains the word "System", e.g., HW System, HW-1 System
